1964 Rambler American 330

Soon I'll document how I straightened out that Bondo/Rust crooked rear fender.

Notice the crooked front tire, fixed that by replacing the upper A-Frame bushings.

I never thought I’d wind
up loving a Rambler.

I came to own this 1964
American 330 2 door coupe
because my boy thought it
was a Chevy II.  It was
sitting beside the road,
for sale, and he was just
old enough to start
dreaming about his first
car.  We drove over to
look at it, and I found
it to be an interesting
twist on my Rambler memories.
It had a 350 cubic inch
Chevy engine, complete
w/dual exhaust, a 350 turbo
automatic, an Elelbrock
intake with a Carter AFB,
and a 3:73 Chevy rear end.

  It was fast,
hard to steer, and hard to
stop.  The interior was
restored original.  Not
perfect, in fact nothing
about the car was perfect,
but it was a nice little
affordable hot rod that
was pretty and fast and
I liked it right away.
I bought it for him and we
dreamed of all the things
we were going to do with it,
but after a while he lost
interest in a car that
needed more time spent
working on it than driving
it, so I swapped him a
pickup for it and it became
mine.  Of course, by then
I’d fallen head over heels
for it.
On the following pages I’ll
show what I’ve done and what
I’m doing to make it better,
for example, one of the first
things I did to it was to swap
the old shoe brakes over to
disk.  I looked all over for
a site to help me do that and
didn’t find one, so I
thought I’d build one.

This is it...
